Filmed throughout Costa Rica, this 4 hour tarantula documentary is our most ambitious film project to date and features 13 different tarantula spider species.
As you would expect of us, we not only show you the very first footage ever filmed of most of these spiders in the wild, but also discuss their biology and the latest taxonomic changes and updates. We also show you the different habitats and burrowing behaviour of each species, drawing upon the research of some of the leading experts in the field, to assist you in captive care. As usual, we explore the history behind the discovery of many of these spiders in the 19th century – ranging from the story of Berthold Seemann, ships botanist of the survey ship H.M.S Herald, to Karl Hoffman, a German doctor, who has become one of Costa Rica’s folk heroes.
Costa Rica is one of the very few countries in the world, where it is safe for enthusiasts to visit and be taken out at night by local guides and photograph these spiders in their natural
habitats. With its large scale eco-tourism industry, and guided natural history expeditions, Costa Rica has an abundance of wildlife and at the end of this documentary, you will have a very good idea of the diversity of its tarantula species.
